Point Edward Incumbent Seeks Second Term

Point Edward Village Councillor Larry Gordon is seeking a second term this October.

Gordon filed nomination papers Wednesday, saying it's been a privilege serving these past four years.

"The first four-year term really has been both challenging, yet gratifying personally," says Gordon.

He says he's pretty proud of the successes they've had as a council.

"We've had one new hotel built, another on the drawing board, an ownership change at the waterfront casino and the multi-million dollar investment there, splash pad seems to be a hit and we've had a fire hall expansion."

Gordon says they've invested in state-of-the-art fibre optic connectivity with Bluewater Regional Networks -- to not only enhance village operations, but act as a magnet for future economic investment.

He says he wants to keep the momentum going.

"I'd like to see further development in the waterfront, the Cantaqleigh properties are still vacant, we've had other feelers about potential multi-residential investment along Venetian Blvd. at Exmouth St. and of course the Holmes Foundry situation," he says. "The ownership puzzle has finally been sorted out there and we look ahead with great anticipation."

Gordon, who's been a Point Edward resident for over 20-years, says he's committed to keeping a steady hand on the tiller by setting responsible and fair budgets.

In addition to his duties as councillor this term, Gordon represented the village on the City of Sarnia Transit Committee and as a member of the board and executive committee of the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority.

Gordon retired from his career in broadcast journalism, as CHOK - Blackburn Radio News Director, in 2013.

The deadline to register as a candidate is July 27.

Election day is October 22.
