Stolen Vehicle Suspect Arrested After Chase

A Sarnia man faces numerous charges after a high-speed chase on city streets and Hwy. 402 Wednesday.

At about 12:40pm, Sarnia police received word that a pick-up truck, stolen from a Plympton-Wyoming company, was in the city.

When police tried to stop the suspect vehicle in the area of Christina St., and Michigan Ave., it sped away.

The pursuing officer, who was able to see the driver and later identify him, ended the chase in the interest of public safety, after speeds in excess of 100 km/h had been reached.

At about 6:15pm, police located and arrested a suspect without incident in the 300-block of Maxwell St.

The stolen truck was found a short time later in the 800 block of Trillium Park.

Michael David Simmons, aged 48, was in custody awaiting a bail hearing on charges of flight while pursued by police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and breach of probation.
