Police Step Up Construction Zone Enforcement

With the hot weather upon us, Sarnia police are cracking down on drivers that disobey road closure signs in construction zones.

Officers have been busy dealing with motorists that don't think the rules of the road apply to them.

Constable John Sottosanti says worker safety is the number one concern.

He says they've been working closely with the Sarnia Construction Association and Bluewater Power.

"The signs are very clear," says Sottosanti. "When people start telling us that their GPS told them to go a certain way, or it's the only way or they're just down the road, we understand that it's an inconvenience. Unfortunately, it's an inconvenience that helps save lives and prevent anything from happening that could be disastrous."

Sottosanti says they've ramped up enforcement with an officer present at most construction zones.

Drivers can be handed a $110 fine for disobeying signs.
