Relief On The Way After Record Hot Weekend

It was a record hot day in Sarnia Sunday.

Severe Weather Meteorologist with Environment Canada Ria Alsen says the mercury climbed to 34.2 C (93 F) surpassing the 2014 record high of 32.7 C (91 F) for June 17.

Alsen says it's unlikely will set a new record Monday with relief from the heat on the way.

"Later Monday afternoon, early evening we're expecting a cold front to sweep through southern Ontario including Sarnia," says Alsen. "First it will give us some showers and thunderstorm activity, but once that's gone through we'll get that colder air in behind the front and temperatures will definitely start to feel more comfortable later Monday evening and definitely by morning we're looking at a low of about 14 C."

A heat warning for Sarnia-Lambton is still in effect for Monday ahead of the expected cold front.

The risks for heat illness are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors. Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

A reminder that during heat events Lambton Public Health has Cooling Centres available across the county.
