Shaw: Exclusion From TV Debate Disappointing

Sarnia-Lambton's Green Party candidate is disappointed to be excluded from a pre-taped television debate.

Kevin Shaw won't be involved in the YourTV Sarnia discussion, to be aired before the June 7 provincial election.

The station is using the same format as the Broadcast Consortium in Toronto which only invited the three "main" parties to their debate.

Shaw says the Green Party has gained momentum in past years and should be allowed to take part.

"We're running a full slate of candidates in all of the ridings in the province, and have for several elections now," says Shaw. "We have a full platform that covers all of the different areas, just as the other parties do. In fact, we probably have some more detail, so I think we should be included.

I hope this is just a one time thing. I understand that any newer party has to earn its way into the discussion, and I think that the Green Party has done that. We've worked hard to run a full campaign, and it's just disappointing not to be included in the debate."

Incumbent Progressive Conservative MPP Bob Bailey, the NDP's Kathy Alexander, and Liberal candidate Neil Wereley will take part in the discussion.

Century Party representative Fanina Kodre, Trillium Party candidate Andy Bruziewicz, and Jeff Lozier of the None of the Above Direct Democracy Party have also been excluded.
