Third Murder Trial Set For 2019 In St. Thomas

The third trial for a Mooretown man charged in the 2008 beating death of his wife is tentatively set for early next year in St. Thomas.

Craig Short was convicted of first-degree murder in February 2013 after his initial trial in Sarnia in 2012 ended with a hung jury.

His conviction was then overturned by the Ontario Court of Appeal in January of this year.

The third trial for Short, now in his late 50s, is scheduled for February 4, 2019 with various dates for pre-trial hearings set for this fall.

Short maintains he's innocent, denying he struck his 48-year-old wife Barbara from behind with a section of fence post, at the rear of the family home on St. Clair Parkway in October 2008.
