Bailey Fires Back At Provincial Liberals

Sarnia-Lambton's MPP is refuting accusations from the governing Ontario Liberals.

In a news release, the Liberals claim Bob Bailey supports PC Leader Doug Ford's call to cut the fund that made a recent $100-million investment into a new NOVA Chemicals facility in St Clair Township.

The project will create hundreds of jobs with a $2-billion investment from NOVA.

Bailey says he supports anything that helps stimulate the economy but says spending has to be kept under control.

"Over 80% of the Jobs and Prosperity Fund, which is where this money came from, over the last five years there was no control over the money," says Bailey. "There was no guarantees of any jobs, the Financial Accountability and Auditor General's Office both had concerns with the money being given out. People were invited, by invitation only, to apply for these funds."

Bailey adds he had to work hard to help convince NOVA to locate their new plant in Sarnia.

He says companies are growing concerned over things like high hydro rates, and tight regulations in Ontario.

Bailey is seeking re-election in Sarnia-Lambton when Ontario voters go to the polls on June 7.
