Sarnia residents are being invited to offer their opinions on the future of the city's parks, recreation facilities and services.
Parks and Rec Director Rob Harwood says they're creating a new master plan for the next ten to 12 years.
"This will allow the city Parks and Recreation Department to strategically guide and manage the direction of recreational services, leisure programs and events," says Harwood. "We have parks, waterfront beaches, public open spaces, trails, cultural opportunities, and development. We want to make sure that we're moving in the right direction and we have a good sense of what the public wants."
Harwood says meetings are being scheduled with community stakeholders, and there's a public open house at 6pm on May 29 at Clearwater Arena.
The Parks and Rec department is responsible for amenities including approximately 400 hectares of park and open space, 90,000 municipal trees, 15 hectares of beachfront, 35,000 sq metres of gardens and 50 km of trails and pathways.
The department also manages three arenas, two swimming pools, one splash pad, one dog park, two skate parks, a BMX track, 14 baseball diamonds, 30 sports fields and 23 outdoor tennis courts.
It operates the Strangway Community Centre, Saradeca and numerous picnic shelters, pavilions, outdoor washroom facilities and playgrounds.
