The focus of IMPACT Day at Great Lakes Secondary School is informing teens and preventing injuries.
Students arrived Thursday morning at school and came upon the scene of a mock car crash, complete with police lights and sirens.
Vice Principal Caroline White says they've been planning for today since the fall.
She says students on the planning committee indicated that students are struggling with the use of drugs and alcohol and distracted driving.
"They identified those as behaviours that they felt were risky," says White. "We felt that it was important that we brought speakers here who could deliver a power message to help our students make safe choices. The timing is important too because we have very significant upcoming events including prom, graduation as well as summer vacation."
A number of community partners like the Sexual Assault Survivors Centre, MADD, Rebound and Lambton Public Health will have information booths set up for the students to visit during the day.
Counsellors will also be on hand for students who may need additional support.
