Hwy. 402 Infrastructure Crossing Prelude To Rapids Parkway Expansion

An environmental assessment into proposed infrastructure crossing Hwy. 402 and running along a portion of Sarnia's Howard Watson Nature Trail, has been initiated by the city.

It's part of the lead-up work for the eventual extension of The Rapids Parkway to Exmouth St.

City Manager of Design and Infrastructure Pratt Rawat says sewage and water infrastructure is being extended from an existing water main at Quinn Dr. and a sanitary sewer just north of London Rd., beneath Hwy. 402 to The Rapids Parkway.

"This project is being undertaken and most likely will happen in 2019," says Rawat. "The road project will happen in the future. We're not 100% when it will. Once we have all of the approvals from the MTO and other agencies, then the road project will go under Hwy. 402."

Rawat says most of the project will be done through directional drilling, so they're trying to minimize any environmental impact in the area.

Input or comments on potential environmental impacts associated with the project can be emailed to pratt.rawat@sarnia.ca or Environmental Planner Kelly Vader at kvader@bmross.net/ before May 30.
