Another Cold And Wet April For The Record Books

Sarnia-Lambton residents are likely glad that April has come to an end.

It was the area's second coldest April since records started being kept in 1967.

The mean temperature reached just 3.6 C, well below the seasonal average of 6.9 C, and 0.4 C off of the record set back in 1975.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says we could have broken a low-temperature record for the month if we didn't get some warmer weather toward the end.

He says it was unseasonably wet as well, the second wettest we've seen.

"We took a combination of rain and the melted snow and ice pellets that we got during the month to get a total precipitation value of 103.1 mm, well above the April average of 71.5 mm for the month of April," says Coulson.

Coulson says the wettest April on record was in 2013 when we received 168.1 mm and local fields were left flooded.

He expects a return to more seasonable temperatures in May and June.
