If you drive by the old Sarnia General Hospital, it's easy to see demolition has begun.
Parts of the building started to come down on April 17 with the overall project expected to be complete by late August.
GFive Inc. partner Mark Lumley says the actual demolition process is mostly abatement and that things go really fast once that process is complete.
"They've finished some of the lower auxiliary buildings around back, those are gone, and they finished the nurses' residence, that's gone," he says. "They just recently finally completed the west-wing and it's over half gone already and they only just started."
A construction crew of around 18 people have been working on the abatement process since September-October of 2017.
Lumley says the results of a rezoning application submitted to city hall will dictate how they move forward after demolition is complete.
City council will consider the rezoning application for the site when it meets May 7. Development plans include 11 single family residential homes, some medical offices and a withdrawal management facility at the north side of George St. at MacKenzie St.
