Mark Davis Named Flags Head Coach

The Mooretown Flags have made an unexpected coaching change after a successful 2017-2018 season.

The PJHL hockey club has announced that former Legionnaires Head Coach Mark Davis will take over behind the bench for the coming year.

The Flags are coming off a 25-12-1-2 season, good for fifth place in the Stobbs Division. They beat Amherstburg in the first round of the postseason before being swept by the Lakeshore Canadiens in four games in round two.

In a news release, the team says when someone with Mark Davis' coaching history of 36 years and several championships to his name becomes available it was impossible to pass up the opportunity to improve the hockey club going forward.

Last season, Davis guided the Legionnaires to a 29-15-1-5 record. The Legionnaires lost in the opening round of the playoffs to the St. Thomas Stars. The club parted ways with him last month and hired Derek Demuzio as Head Coach.

The Flags will be announcing Davis' assistant coaches in the coming weeks.

Last year's Head Coach Jordan Pennesi and assistants Jeff Paulley and Dara Emslie won't be returning.
