Dog Park Gets Final Bark Of Approval

The off-leash dog park is now a permanent feature at Germain Park.

Council unanimously approved a recommendation from staff on Monday, to make the pilot project a lasting space for canines.

Councillor Mike Kelch says was he was happy to support the direction.

"Five years ago I was rabidly anti-dog park and I was drawn to the light by the off-leash committee as they demonstrated their ability to fundraise funds on their own," says Kelch. "This was not going to come out of the gate in a perfect form. It would require some work. A pilot. A lot of feedback from users."

As much as $8,000 will be spent on seating and accessibility improvements this year.

The 1-acre site, on the south border of Germain Park east of the lawn bowling parking lot, has two separately fenced areas. One for large dogs and the other for small/shy/senior dogs.
