Possible Withdrawal Management Site Identified In SGH Redevelopment Plans

Plans for redevelopment of the former Sarnia General Hospital identify a proposed site for the community's long-planned withdrawal management centre.

GFive Inc. partner Kenn Poore says a formal rezoning application has been filed for the site bounded by Mitton St. to the west, George St. to the south, Essex St. on the north side and MacKenzie St. N. to the east.

Poore says plans call for a withdrawal management facility to be located on the north side of George St. at MacKenzie St. across from the Lambton Emergency Medical Services station.

He says the overall development includes plans for single family residential homes and some medical offices and crisis care type facility.

"Something like the Bluewater Health withdrawal management facility would be included under crisis care," says Poore. "Bluewater Health has already been doing a process and this is one of the properties that's under consideration."

Bluewater Health has not yet announced its preferred site.

Poore says drawings will be presented at a community meeting GFive is hosting at the Lochiel Kiwanis Centre on Tuesday, April 17, at 6:30pm.

He expects Sarnia City Council will consider the rezoning application as early as next month.
