The mood outside of the Pt. Edward Arena was sombre on Monday night, as over 100 people gathered to pay tribute to the Humboldt Broncos hockey team.
The candlelight vigil honoured members of the Saskatchewan-based club that tragically lost their lives in a crash involving the team bus and a transport truck on Friday.
Those young and old, many wearing minor hockey jerseys, wiped away tears as Reverend Shirley Murdock spoke.
"Too many young men, coaches, leaders and mentors tragically lost their lives," says Murdock. "We mourn with their families and friends, we join with their community to seek understanding and peace as we remember each one who has died."
Pt. Edward Minor Hockey Association Alumni Lindsay Kirkland helped organize the event and was thrilled with the turnout.
"It's fantastic," says Kirkland. "When I envisioned this, I didn't envision that many people. It was amazing to see all of the support that came out tonight."
The crowd packed a donation box with money for the Humboldt community, and minor hockey players signed a poster board with condolences.
Everyone that donated at least $5 was given a Humboldt Broncos window sticker.
There were also 15 hockey sticks leaned up against the arena, symbolizing those that lost their lives.
Meanwhile, A GoFundMe page for the victims' families and those hurt in the crash raised over $5-million by Monday morning.
