UPDATE: Point Edward Vigil For Humboldt Planned

A large turnout is expected at a candlelight vigil at Point Edward Memorial Arena Monday evening. The community is invited to show their support for the victims and their families of Friday's horrific crash involving the Humboldt Broncos hockey team. Point Edward Hockey Association President Liz Page says the idea to hold a vigil was brought to her by a former player with their organization. "One of our former players in our organization Lindsay Kirkland, who played with our organization for years and years contacted me with this brilliant idea," says Page. "I was quick to support her however she needed and it really caught on in the community. I think people were happy to have an opportunity to pay their respects." Those attending the vigil are encouraged to wear a hockey jersey, bring their own candles and be responsible for their own fire safety. Page says there'll be a poster board for written messages of condolence to the families that will be sent to Humbolt, along with a donation from the village hockey association. "It really hit close to home," says Page. "When I think about 15 players from our organization and how that would impact our community, it's pretty devastating. I think that's where we all could identify and wanted to do something to recognize the magnitude of this situation." The vigil, outdoors in the arena parking lot at the corner of Monk St. and Alexandra Ave., begins at 7pm. Those attending from the village are asked to walk if possible, to assist with parking.

Meanwhile, A GoFundMe page for the victims families and those hurt in the crash raised over $5-million by Monday morning.
