Pursuit Suspect Found Under BBQ Cover

A police pursuit Thursday afternoon ended in Sarnia's Sherwood Village when a Toronto-area man was found under a barbecue cover.

Just after 12pm, a city police officer stopped a grey Mazda on London Line after noticing it had an expired sticker.

After producing a health card as ID, it was determined the driver was wanted on outstanding warrants out of Peel Region.

Police say the driver then sped off south on Modeland Rd., running the red light at Wellington St.

The pursuit was called off for public safety, but the vehicle was later found parked in the plaza at Trudeau Dr. and Confederation St.

With the help of the OPP Canine Unit, police set up a perimeter and a suspect was found at around 1pm hiding under a barbecue cover behind a Turner Dr. townhouse.

Jeremy Kandhai, 23, of North York is charged with failing to comply with recognizance, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight while being pursued and resisting a peace officer.

He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
