Sarnia Man Charged In Hit-And-Run

A 20-year-old Sarnia man is charged in connection with a hit-and-run collision early Sunday morning that seriously injured a pedestrian.

Sarnia police say a 29-year-old man was walking westbound on Lakeshore Rd. when he was struck by a vehicle just west of Blackwell Side Rd. at around 1:30am.

The man was taken to Bluewater Health and then transferred to London Health Sciences Centre where he was listed in serious condition Monday.

Constable John Sottosanti says the driver of the vehicle turned himself in Monday morning.

"Boady Santavy, 20-years-old from Sarnia, turned himself in at approximately 9:50am," says Sottosanti. "Boady Santavy was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada for failing to remain at the scene and has been released by the Officer in Charge via a promise to appear."

Santavy is a well-known local weightlifter who is preparing for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Australia next month.

Constable Sottosanti says members of the Sarnia Police Service Traffic Unit and the Criminal Investigation Branch continue to investigate the collision.

Anyone with further information or who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Constable James Maginn at 519-344-8861 ext. 6152 or Detective Sam Sulaiman at ext. 6132.
