Summit Hopes To Connect New Youth To New Home

Two local organizations are teaming up to welcome local newcomers, immigrants and refugee youth to Sarnia-Lambton.

On Thursday, the YMCA Learning & Career Centre Immigrant Services and the Sarnia-Lambton Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) will host a day-long summit to connect new youth to their community.

It will offer recreational, social, education and health services through a number of events listed at the bottom of the page.

LIP project coordinator Stephanie Ferrera is hoping the event facilitates meaningful integration.

"[Studies show] that if children are happy in their environment then families tend to stay in communities and they tend to thrive," she says. "Our community is seeing emigration of youth and we have high rates of retirees. So having new, young families come in to fill that deficit is obviously a great idea."

Ferrera says everyone is welcome to attend to learn more about the needs if of immigrant youth and to brainstorm solutions to settlement challenges.

To find out more or register for the event at the Holiday Inn Point Edward Sarnia-Lambton Local Immigration Partnership you can visit the summit's Eventbrite page.
