Ontario PC Leadership Hopeful Supports Sarnia Withdrawal Management Facility

Ontario PC leadership candidate Christine Elliott says she'd ensure funding flows for a long-planned withdrawal management facility in Sarnia.

The former provincial legislator says her platform includes nearly $2-billion to expand mental health and addictions services.

"It's very dangerous some of the things that are happening now because some of the opioids are also being mixed with fentanyl," says Elliott. "We need to make sure our first responders are properly equipt with the medication that can prevent death in some cases. We also need more counselling and treatment facilities in order to help people to get off these kinds of medications."

Members of the Progressive Conservative Party have until 8pm to register to vote in the leadership race.

Organizing committee chair Hartley Lefton Wednesday afternoon that the deadline was being extended by a day due to continuing demand from party members for verification codes.

Voting is to end at noon Friday, with the results of the leadership contest set to be revealed on Saturday.
