Legionnaires Fall 4-2 To Maroons

The Sarnia Legionnaires (27-15-1-5) were doubled up 4-2 by the visiting Chatham Maroons (25-21-1-2) in GOJHL hockey action Thursday night at the Brock St. Barn.

It was the Legionnaires' first regulation loss on home ice since October 26 against LaSalle. It marks Chatham's sixth straight victory.

Bryce Yetman opened the scoring for the Maroons 15:38 into the first period. Jon Sanderson and Greg Hay responded with early second period goals to pull Sarnia ahead 2-1, but Steven Fowler's powerplay goal tied the game 2-2 heading into the third.

Fowler potted his second of the contest 5:30 into the third period, and Josh Supryka's empty-netter sealed the Maroons' 4-2 win. Sam McCormack, Aaron Jamieson, Nolan DeGurse, and Zach Vanderwal each had an assist for the Legionnaires, while Dane Johnstone, and Jordan Frasca had two assists apiece for Chatham.

The Legionnaires travel to St. Thomas on Friday night for a big matchup with the Stars. With 61 points, St. Thomas is one up on Sarnia for fourth place and home ice advantage in the playoffs. It's the second last game of the season for both teams. The Legionnaires conclude the regular season on Saturday night in Strathroy. Chatham is guaranteed a sixth-place finish. They host the first place London Nationals in Sunday's season finale.
