Legionnaires Offence Shines In Win Over St. Marys

The Sarnia Legionnaires' (26-14-1-5) offence exploded in an 8-2 win over the visiting St. Marys Lincolns (9-28-2-5) in GOJHL hockey action Thursday night at the Brock St. Barn.

Alec DeKoning led the way for the Legionnaires with a goal and three assists, while Sam McCormack scored and dished out two helpers. Greg Hay had a pair of goals, and Jon Sanderson, Josh Barraclough, and Zach Vanderwal each chipped in two assists.

Cameron Hough, Brock Perry, Joel Pavey, and Nolan DeGurse rounded out the scoring for Sarnia. Michael Andrews and Mitch Bakker each scored for St. Marys.

The Legionnaires fired 45 shots on net, and chased Lincolns goalie Evan Morrison from the net in the second period after scoring five goals on 25 shots. Sarnia goaltender Blair Coffin made 18 saves on 20 shots against.

Sarnia is now third place in the Western Conference standings with 58 points. They're two points ahead of the St. Thomas Stars, five back of LaSalle, and nine behind London and Leamington for top spot.

The Legionnaires return to action on Saturday night at home to the Leamington Flyers at the Brock St. Barn. It's Hockey Day in Sarnia, minor hockey players will get into the game for free if they wear their team jersey or jacket.
