Woman Tied Up In Her Kitchen In Home Invasion

A 76-year-old Sarnia woman was tied up in her kitchen and had her vehicle stolen in a brazen home invasion late Saturday night.

City police say the woman was watching television at her Mayfair Dr. home at around 11:30pm when she went to the side door after hearing a loud noise.

Constable John Sottosanti says a man at the door ordered her to take a seat in the kitchen, tied her to the chair, and began rummaging through the house.

He says the woman was able to slip out of her restraints and run to a neighbour's house for help.

"Obviously she's very distraught and upset from the whole situation, fortunately, she did not incur any physical injuries from the incident," says Sottosanti.

Constable Sottosanti says the suspect made off in the victim's car before police arrived.

"At this time, the only description police have is that the male is white, no older than 40-years of age, clean shaven, no glasses or piercings and was wearing a cap or toque and no coat," he says.

The stolen vehicle was later recovered in the city.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sargeant Leo Murphy at 519-344-8861 ext. 6142 or Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
