It has been a busy winter for the Canadian and U.S. coast guards.
Working in very difficult ice conditions, they helped over 300 vessels make their way from Lake Huron through to Lake Erie, sailing over 12,000 km.
Those freighters were carrying heating oil, construction materials, salt and other cargos.
Wednesday, the crew on the Canadian Coast Guard ship Griffon was maintaining the shipping channel across Lake St. Clair while the Samuel Risley was helping a tanker coming from Lake Erie to Sarnia.
