UPDATE: Suspicious Fire Guts RV, Damages House (GALLERY)

Sarnia police criminal investigators have taken over the probe into a fire that destroyed a motor home and damaged an adjacent house Tuesday morning.

Firefighters from three stations responded just after 7am to the southeast corner of Exmouth St. and Indian Rd.

Platoon Chief Bill Sheane said the fire started in the RV and spread to the abandoned brick home just three feet away.

"It got into the main floor and then up into the attic," Shane said at the scene. "I believe the motorhome would be written off and the house I'm not sure at this time yet."

Lambton EMS also responded but there was no one in the home and no firefighters were injured.

Sheane said there were flames when they arrived and heavy black smoke.

"The fibreglass, plastics and cloth and stuff from the RV really makes a lot of black smoke," he said.

There was no hydro or gas service to the house.

Fire Prevention Officer Mike Otis says it's been a busy start to 2018 for Sarnia Fire & Rescue.

"There's been at least six structure fires in just over a week and that's on top of everything else, medicals, accidents, and we did a rescue last night off a ship," says Otis.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact Detective Constable Brian Halfpenny at 519-344-8861 (extension 6213) or Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
