A homeowner was alerted to a garage fire Tuesday morning by his neighbour.

The blaze broke out around 10am on Minto St. between Kensington Blvd and Germain St.

Chris Biggs says he was asleep when the fire broke out.

"I heard banging on the door, I was sleeping I worked evening's last night and I got up and saw my neighbour walking back, saw the smoke in the air so I went outside and seen the flames coming out the back of the garage and called 911," says Biggs.

He says fire also melted the nearby shed but thankfully there was no damage to the house.

"The garage is done, a total write off," says Biggs. "I had my motorcycle in there a Yamaha VMAX, all my tools, snowblower, lawnmower, pressure washer, $100,000 worth of tools easy but the main thing, everybody's safe."

Fire officials says the cause was electrical in nature.
