HUB In Danger Of Closing

The HUB drop-in space for at-risk youth is at risk of closing. Sarnia-Lambton Rebound Executive Director Carrie McEachran says they'll run out of funding for the one year pilot project at St. Luke's United Church in Sarnia at the end of February. "The numbers are higher than we were expecting," says McEachran. "Over 250 youth have made almost 4,000 individual visits to get help so we just can't allow it to close at the end of next month. Several of the young people are couch surfing. They don't know where they're going to be staying any given night. They don't know when their next meal will be. We help them with housing, give them employment and educational support, addictions counselling and mental health support." Rebound is leading a group of 36 agencies providing help to those between 16 and 24, at an annual cost of about $250,000. McEachran says they've applied for various grants but have not been successful yet. She says while they appreciate the offer of the former ABC Nursery as a shelter, they do not have the funds to renovate it.
