What’s That Smell?

If you smell rotten eggs south of Sarnia today, there’s a reason for it.

SEMCO Energy is decommissioning a large natural gas transmission line, near the old train depot in Marysville, Michigan.

Marysville Department of Public Safety spokesman Thomas Konik says part of the process of making the retired line safe, is purging any residual gas and replacing it with inert nitrogen.

During the process, Konik says residents may smell the odorant that is put into the natural gas.

The process, which began at 11am, was expected to last up to ten hours.
