Historic Hadfield Mission Took Flight Five Years Ago

It was on this date five years ago that Sarnia-born astronaut Chris Hadfield blasted into space for the second time.

On December 19, 2012, Hadfield's Soyuz flight headed to the International Space Station where he would become the first Canadian to command the crew and record a viral video tribute to David Bowie with a rendition of Space Oddity.

The world was captivated by his tweets and photos from space.

Hadfield returned to earth in May 2013.
