Funeral Services Set For Popular Radio Announcer

Long-time former CHOK morning announcer Gary Connors has lost his battle with lung cancer.

The 65-year-old was diagnosed in the summer of 2014.

Connors began his career in radio as a reporter for CKJD in 1972 and then spent 14 years on CHOK, keeping listeners laughing with his wit, corny jokes, one-liners and down-to-earth, self-depreciating style.

The Ipperwash resident later worked for The Eagle at Kettle and Stony Point First Nation. He was an avid motorcycle drag racer and musician, volunteering his time and talents for many fundraisers.

Connors is survived by his wife, Deborah, children Dave, Christina, Dean and KayDee and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the Smith Funeral Home Thursday afternoon and evening from 2pm until 4pm and 6pm and 8pm with a celebration of Gary's life Friday morning at 10am.
