Holiday Tips From Sarnia Fire And Rescue

Sarnia Fire and Rescue wants to make sure you take special precautions while putting up Christmas decorations this holiday season.

Fire Prevention Officer Mike Otis says this time of year they often see an increase in the number of house fires.

Christmas decorations are pretty to look at, but can be dangerous if not done properly.

“Check all of your lighting before decorating, and never put more than three strands of lights together,” says Otis. “Ensure that you’re using the proper cord for the proper job. Use outdoor cords outdoors, and indoor cords indoors. Make sure you aren’t overloading your electrical outlets.”

Otis says if you have a real Christmas tree, water it daily.

It can dry out very quickly and catch fire.
