Heavy Hitters Coming To Enbridge Famous Five Speaker Series

Singer/songwriter Emm Gryner, Olympic Figure skater silver medalist Elizabeth Manley, Status of Women Deputy Minister Gina Wilson and Barbara Stegemann from the CBC's Dragon's Den will all be coming to Sarnia.

Chair Vicky Ducharme says they don't have a very difficult time attracting extraordinary women to share their perspectives.

"Many people have now heard of the Famous Five series," says Ducharme. "Sometimes we go through the Speaker Series, while others give their time because they know it's important to empower other women."

The events are well attended.

"We've had anywhere from 70 to 400 people. It depends on the speaker. We had nearly 400 people come to see Roberta Bondar, Canada's first female astronaut in space."

The name "Famous Five" refers to a group of five Alberta women who challenged laws and convention by insisting women were indeed "persons" in the late 1920's.

Ticket information can be found at the Sarnia Lambton Famous Five facebook page.
