County Council Opts Out Of Calling In

Lambton County councillors don't like the idea of calling into a meeting on conference call.

Recent changes to the Ontario Municipal Act allow councillors to take part in council meetings electronically if they can't be there in person.

St. Clair Township Mayor Steve Arnold says members meet ten times a year in Wyoming and they should be able to make it to those meetings.

"If your here, you've been elected to serve, serve your people," says Arnold. "I think it's a disrespect to the people that put you in office if you decide you just don't want to be here."

A recommendation to allow electronic participation was voted down at Wednesday's county council meeting.
