Santa Claus Parade Needs Money

The Sarnia Kinsmen Club is seeking donations to help offset costs for the upcoming Santa Claus Parade of Lights.

The parade, set for December 2, will feature about 40 floats and marching bands from Port Huron, Rochester, Michigan, and Memphis, Michigan.

Club President Bob Marks estimates the event will cost them $15,000.

"We are required to pay the transportation costs for the large bands that we have coming in," says Marks. "The school boards will not pay for any extra-curricular activities for the bands so, if we want to present the bands to the citizens along the parade route, then we have to ship them here."

Marks says they're also doing a fundraiser on November 25 outside of the Walmart plaza.

Anyone wishing to donate can mail Kinsmen Fund Raising, Santa Parade, P.O. Box 861, Sarnia, ON, N7T 7J9.

The annual parade starts at 6pm at Exmouth St. and Christina St., and heads south down Christina St. to Wellington St.
