Great Day For Hay, Legionnaires Win 12-3

Grey Hay scored an incredible five goals and added two assists, as the Sarnia Legionnaires (11-7-1-2) hammered the Komoka Kings (5-14-3-1) 12-3 in GOJHL hockey action Thursday at the Brock St. Barn.

Nolan DeGurse had a hat trick of his own and a pair of helpers, while Joel Pavey and Joey Zappa dished out four assists each. Josh Baraclough and Trevor Bogaert both scored twice to round out the scoring for the Legionnaires. Defencemen Matt Stoia, Tyler Beneteau, and Ben Schoch all had two assists.

Sarnia fired 62 shots on goal and chased Kings goalie Avery Hartwick early in the second period after scoring six goals on 23 shots. Reagan Gies allowed six goals on 39 shots against. Legionnaires netminder Will Barber stopped 31 of 34 Komoka shots.

The Legionnaires scored five goals in the opening period and four in the second to open up a commanding 9-0 lead. Alex Cunningham and Joel Mazzilli scored for the Kings to cut the lead to 9-2 after two periods.

DeGurse completed his hat trick early in the third, and Mazzilli scored on the powerplay to make it a 10-3 hockey game. Hay scored two goals 11 seconds apart for a 12-3 final.

The Legionnaires scored once on four powerplay opportunities and killed off five of seven penalties.

The Legionnaires sit fourth in the Western Conference standings with 25 points, six behind the first place Leamington Flyers and only two back of St. Thomas for third.

Sarnia returns to action on Sunday night in Chatham (10-9-0-1) at 7:00pm. They'll head to LaSalle (11-8-1-1) on Wednesday night before hosting the St. Marys Lincolns (5-12-1-2) on Thursday.
