Early Start To Flu Season

Local health officials are preparing for a busy winter flu season.

There's already been one confirmed case of the flu in Sarnia-Lambton, according to Lambton Public Health Supervisor Erin Courtney.

She says typically we don't start seeing cases locally until the end of November or early December.

Courtney says last season there were 90 confirmed cases and seven flu related deaths.

"Influenza is a severe respiratory illness," says Courtney. "Muscle aches, high fever and you get a bit of coughing. You're down and out for a good week."

Courtney says flu clinics will begin Thursday, October 26.

The first will be held at Fiddick's Nursing Home in Petrolia. 31 pharmacies across Sarnia-Lambton are also providing the flu shot.
