Habitat Needs Votes

Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton wants your help to win up to $100,000 from the Aviva Community Fund.

The grant would fund the Guthrie Dr. Affordable Seniors Housing Complex, to be built in Sarnia in 2018.

Executive Director Sarah Reaume is asking residents to register and vote for their project online.

"We've completed the servicing for that project this year and as soon as the frost is out of the ground next year we will begin construction," says Reaume. "It is a five-unit complex, the budget of which is around $600,000, so certainly to receive $100,000 in funding through the Aviva Community Fund would be an extraordinary boost to the project."

Reaume says their project is the first of its kind that a Habitat affiliate has undertaken in Canada.

"We are very excited about that. Excited about the opportunity to take a leadership role and and hopeful that we get lots of support across our community for this initiative," she says.

Reaume says each person who registers gets 18 votes to cast and can choose to use them all on their favourite idea it they want.

Voting closes October 19.
