Larger Homes Possible In Point Edward

New one-storey homes built in Point Edward could get a little bigger under a proposed zoning bylaw amendment.

CAO Jim Burns says the proposal would see lot coverage for single storey dwellings increase but stay the same for two storeys and up.

Council will also consider a slight increase in the size of garages allowed.

"The bylaw currently is at 30%," says Burns. "We're looking at increasing that to 35% for single storey family dwellings and leaving it at 30% for anything greater than a single storey. We're also looking at increasing slightly the size of garages allowed, both attached and detached."

One other amendment would prohibit the use of shipping containers in all general commercial zones, similar to what is in place in residential areas.

A public meeting on the proposals will be held on Tuesday, October 17 at 5pm in council chambers.
