SLEP And TSL Merger Explored

Should the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership (SLEP) and Tourism Sarnia-Lambton (TSL) merge?

Lambton County Council wants the idea explored and has asked staff to initiate discussions with both groups and report back by February.

Warwick Township Mayor Todd Case says economic development and tourism are often located under the same umbrella in other communities.

"The tourism group has done a very good job in my opinion in the last few years, so it's not a criticism by any means, it's a way of making us stronger here in Lambton, overall," says Case. "Tourism is business and it is economics, so I would at least like to see that explored and I look forward to the report coming back."

Case says it's a good time to look into combining the resources because TSL funding is currently being reviewed before the next budget and SLEP recently announcing a change at its helm.

Stephen Thompson stepped into the chief executive officer role late this summer when George Mallay retired.
