September Real Estate Sales Hold Steady

The Sarnia-Lambton real estate market continues to surge ahead of last year.

Even though there was one less sale in September compared to the same month in 2016, year-to-date sales are still $6-million ahead of last year.

Board President Steve Park says the number of out-of-town buyers continues to increase, buoyed by retirees.

"We're seeing a lot of people moving from the bigger centres and seeing Sarnia as home," says Park. "The second thing is that we have a small influx coming in, for new positions, one job, say at the LCBO, or one job here or one job there. There's not huge announcements but there are a lot of people hiring."

Twenty three of the 172 homes sold in September were in the $200,000 to $250,000 range, with the average price $263,000.

Park says September sales were skewed to the lower end of the market, indicating that there are more people looking for moderately priced homes and finding them.

There are currently 241 properties for sale, 179 of which are single family homes.
