Over $40,000 Raised At Sarnia Terry Fox Run

It was another successful day that raised awareness, and support for cancer research.

The 37th Annual Terry Fox Run in Canatara Park Sunday raised over $44,000.

Over 400 participants from the Sarnia area and beyond wanting to do their part in the fight against cancer.

Amongst the crowd, rows of orange shirts stood out in the audience like the maple leaf on the Canadian flag. 116 members of Team Leo gathered for their 8th consecutive year to walk and run in support cancer research.

Team member, 86-year-old Leo Arts, created the team after winning his battle with colon cancer, but this year's run was different. Art's son-in-law just passed away from cancer of the esophagus, and two of his daughters were recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

Helen Arts-Smith, one of Leo's three daughters, said this year's run is especially important to all of Team Leo.

Since the Terry Fox Run began, Sarnia has raised over $1.2-million.

Alvinston also held it's Terry Fox Run Sunday. Just over 75 people took part and collected over $33,000.
