Legionnaires Fall To Komoka In Home Opener

The Sarnia Legionnaires (1-2-0-0) dropped their home opener 3-2 to the Komoka Kings (2-1-0-0) in GOJHL hockey action at the Brock St. Barn Thursday night.

The Legionnaires led 2-1 after two periods but allowed a pair of third period goals just 1:30 apart.

Port Lambton native Greg Hay scored his first career GOJHL goal on a rebound from Ben Schoch's point shot, Jon Sanderson added the other helper. Hay, and Trevor Bogaert assisted on Brett Corrigan's second goal of the season.

Kyle Fisher, and Wes Dobbin led the way for the Kings with a goal and an assist each. Brett Fisher scored the game winner for Komoka.

The Legionnaires and Kings weren't able to capitalize on the power play, going 0/6 and 0/8 respectively.

Legionnaires Head Coach Mark Davis says they need to play more disciplined hockey to win. "There were too many stupid penalties, it ruins the momentum of the hockey game," says Davis.

"We had a lot of selfish players tonight. Five on five we took the play to them and all of a sudden we make a bad play coming back to the point, our defence gets beat, and it's a wrist shot in our net. Again, we had some powerplays but didn't get shots."

Legionnaires goalie and Sarnia Sting draft pick Blair Coffin made 32 saves on 29 shots against, while Avery Hartwick made 35 saves on 37 Sarnia shots.

The game marked the Komoka Kings' first visit to the Brock St. Barn after moving from Lambton Shores in the offseason.

The Legionnaires return to action Saturday night at 7pm against the Leamington Flyers at Sarnia Arena.
