UPDATE: Shell Dealing With Hydrocarbon Release

Shell says work has been completed to remove what it calls a small volume of hydrocarbon from the St. Clair River near its manufacturing centre at Corunna. Spokesperson Kristina Zimmer says company personnel continue efforts to clean-up a sheen in Talfourd Creek near the refinery. She says the source of the sheen was isolated shortly after it was discovered around 8am Thursday. A temporary boom was deployed at the creek and vacuum trucks were also being used. The environment ministry was on site, a Chemical Valley Emergency Coordinating Organziation (CVECO) alert was issued, and neighbours downriver were notified. Zimmer says the cause of the incident is under investigation.
