Legwand Joins Sarnia Sting Coaching Staff

The Sarnia Sting have announced that Co-Owner David Legwand will serve as an associate coach for the upcoming Ontario Hockey League season.

He'll be behind the bench with fellow Co-Owner and Head Coach Derian Hatcher, and assistants Brad Staubitz and Jeff Barratt.

After announcing his retirement from the NHL on December 22, 2016, Legwand spent the majority of the 2016-2017 season with the hockey club in a coaching capacity; working with the players on practice days and analyzing the play from the suite-level on game nights.

Prior to being selected second overall by the Nashville Predators in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft and spending 16 seasons in the NHL, Legwand played his junior hockey with the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL.

In the season before he was drafted, he scored 54 goals along with 51 assists, totaling 105 points. This offensive outbreak earned him the Red Tilson Award as the most outstanding player in the league.

The Sting will travel to London on September 1 to face the Knights in preseason action, and will host the Knights the following night at 7pm.

Sarnia will have another preseason game at home to the Windsor Spitfires on September 16.

The Sting kick off the regular season in Guelph on September 22 and will host Kitchener in their home opener the following night.

Individual tickets for preseason games went on sale Tuesday, August 22. Fans can secure their seats by phone at 519-541-1717 or visit the Sarnia Sting Box Office.
