Driver Charged In Latest 402 Crash

A Hamilton man is charged in the latest multi-vehicle crash on westbound Hwy. 402.

Lambton OPP say around 5:30pm Sunday, a transport truck slammed into the back of two other transports just east of Indian Rd.

Police say 40-year-old Jason Richard is charged with careless driving.

West Region Sergeant Dave Rektor says being prepared to stop isn't an option, it's a driver's duty.

"Our message has been the same all along which is you have to be a good driver and practice good driving habits, which includes always looking well ahead of you and down the road to see if traffic is stopped," says Rektor. "On any highway, it's not a matter of if traffic will stop but when it stops and you have to be prepared to stop safely for vehicles in front of you, or anything else that comes into your pathway."

Sergeant Rektor says thankfully only minor injuries were reported, but due to the massive debris field, the highway was closed for about six hours to allow for cleanup.

Sunday's crash was the third chain-reaction collision on the westbound 402 approach to the Blue Water Bridge within the last month.
