City Confirms Agora To Be Accessible

Work continues at the Suncor Agora at Centennial Park.

The city says the back area around the gathering space is still a construction site.

Acting Chief Administrative Officer Scott McEachran says some of the work still to be finished is the installation of the washroom door operators, ramps and adult size change tables.

He says the accessible ramp has not been constructed yet, but it is planned shortly.

"It is anticipated that the work will be done over the next three to four weeks," says McEachran. "The building code has a certain standard level for accessibility, frankly we were kind of shocked at the suggestion that this would not be accessible."

Centennial Park officially opened to the public with a family friendly party on June 17.

The park had been closed since the discovery of asbestos and other contaminants in the soil in 2013.
