Man Rescued from St. Clair River

A Canadian has been rescued after a scary moment on the St. Clair River.

The Port Huron, Michigan police department says the incident began shortly before 9pm Friday, when they received a call about a person in distress on the river. Lt. Marcy Kuehn told the Port Huron Times-Herald that the caller had heard screaming coming from an area off Pine Grove Park.

Kuehn says officers began a search for the person and two of them located a man shouting for help in the water off the Municipal Office Building.

A rescue boat from Port Huron Fire was used to retrieve the man from the water, Fire Capt. Jeff Finnegan told the Times-Herald.

The man was treated and then returned to Canada.

The incident took place two days before the Port Huron Float Down event, during which a section of the St. Clair River is closed to vessel traffic. Last year's event was noteworthy because hundreds of American floaters were forced to land in Sarnia due to high winds.
