About 70 young hockey players are expected as training camp opens this weekend for the Sarnia Legionnaires.
The hockey club will hold four separate skates throughout the day Saturday, beginning at 9am and wrapping up at 3pm.
General Manager Bob Williamson says from there they will trim the field by nearly half for the top 40 game Sunday at 2pm. All skates are at Clearwater Arena and the public is welcome to attend.
The Legionnaires will open their six game preseason schedule Thursday, August 24 against the Strathroy Rockets. It's their first of three exhibition games at Clearwater Arena as they await the ice to go in at the Sarnia Arena. They host the Chatham Maroons on August 29, and the London Nationals on August 3t.
The GOJHL regular season opens with the annual showcase tournament September 8, 9 and 10. A change of venue this year as the showcase has been moved from London's Western Fair Sports Centre, to the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre in Brantford.
The Legionnaires will begin their home schedule at Sarnia Arena on Thursday, September 14 against the Komoka Kings.
