City Taking Precautions During Solar Eclipse Monday

A solar eclipse that will occur Monday has the city of Sarnia taking precautions with its recreation programming.

Sarnians will experience a partial eclipse of the sun from 1pm until 4pm August 21.

More than 75% of the sun will become blocked by the moon.

In a news release issued Friday afternoon, Director of Parks and Recreation Rob Harwood says while the event is exciting, partial eclipses are not safe to look at and can result in eye damage.

Camp Saredaca Day Camp programming will continue but children will be indoors from 1pm until 4pm.

The Newton Park Program will be cancelled for the afternoon Monday, so all staff and children will be done as of 12pm.

The Cox Youth Centre (Tecumseh Pool) will be closed from 1pm until 4pm Monday and therefore the open swim and swim lessons will be cancelled.

Environment Canada's forecast for Sarnia Monday is a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 30 C.
